Buhari Wins Gombe

Results released Monday afternoon in Gombe showed that President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the preferred presidential candidate for the people of the state as he polled 402,961 votes beating former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who secured 138,484 votes in last Saturday’s election.

The Returning Officer of the presidential election in the state, Prof. Mohammed Kyari from Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola, while announcing the results said the two presidential candidates and others secured the votes out of the 580,649 votes cast during the election.

From the results released, President Buhari won convincingly in nine out of the 11 local government areas, Akko, Balanga, Kaltungo, Gombe, Dukku, Nafada, Kwami, Yamaltu-Deba and Funakaye while Atiku won in Billiri and Shongom Local Government Areas.

Prof. Kyari said 604,340 voters were accredited but only 554,203 votes were valid, while 26,486 votes were invalid.
