Rainoil Tennis: Atseye, Madueke Reach Doubles Quarter-final

Defending men’s doubles champions, Henry Atseye and Nonso Madueke, have booked quarterfinals berth at the ongoing 2nd Rainoil Open Tennis Championship taking place at Ikoyi Club in Lagos.

The duo defeated the pair of Uche Oparaoji and Chima Michael 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 to land in the quarter final stage of the N5.1million prize money tournament.

Atseye and Madueke are to play the pair of Michael Michael and Ambrose Michael who defeated Taiwo Owolabi and Emmanuel Sunday 6-3, 6-3 yesterday.

Top seed, Sylvester Emmanuel and Lawal Shehu, are also through to the last-eight of the tournament after a 7-6 7-6 (5) win over Shola Alalade and Richard Ogbu and next for them is a meeting with Joseph Imeh and Christian Paul who edged Odeyemi Ayobami and Philip Abayomi 7-6(5), 6-4.

Oche Adehi and Emmanuel Idoko would battle Ikechukwu Iloputa and Charles Nwandu who got the better of the pair of Emmanuel Ikakah and Henry John while Kareem Badmus and Joseph Iyorovbe , 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 winners over John Dickson and Linus Paul will face Abdulmumin Babalola and Albert Bikom who defeated Oyelami Ojo and Ganiyu Salami 6-2, 6-1.

In the women’s doubles, Christy Agugbom and Blessing Samuel will face Sarah Adegoke and Omolayo Bamidele while Rachel Adunoye and Khadijat Salami defeated Olamide Aluko and Serena Teluwo 7-5, 6-4 to set up a duel with Ronke Akingbade and Mary Tenu Michael who triumphed over Raleema Bello and Blessing Danjuma 6-0, 6-2.

Afolarin Akosile and Ngozi Dirisu will battle Ebere Fortune and Stella Udokwelu just as Temitope Fashanu and Ramota Odeyemi will square up against Rose Abu and Bukola Olowu for the last quarterfinal place.

The tournament will end on Saturday with finals of the men and women’s singles.
