Soldiers Embark on Environmental Sanitation in Delta Market

Civilian and military relationship received a boost last weekend with the Joint Task Force (JTF) code named Operation Delta Safe carrying out an environmental exercise at Effurun market in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State as part of the ongoing Operation Crocodile Smiles 111.

Officers and soldiers of sector One of JTF, led by the Commanding Officer, Col. Alhassan Grema, stormed the market in the early hours to cart away mounted refuse which had been the hallmark of the market.

The Army Chief, top officers including the Commanding Officer, 3 Battalion, Effurun, Major S Y Hassan, as well as the Chairman of the council, Hon. Ralp Onayaike, with his officials mopped up all refuse that littered the market in the exercise that lasted for about five hours to the admirations of the traders and customers alike.

Speaking during the exercise, Grema said the exercise was part of the ongoing Operation Crocodile Smiles 111 to foster civilian and military relationship in the area.

He said Soldiers were friends of Nigerians employed to protect the territorial integrity of the country as well as the indigenes.

Grema urged residents to see the military as their friends and cooperate by availing it with relevant information about criminals to enable them live peacefully.

Chairman of Uvwie Local Government, Hon. Onayake commended the JTF for the exercise noting that the gesture will solidify relationship between his people and the military.

He urged youths of the area to see the military as their friend out to protect them.
