The Katsina State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded the immediate resignation of Governor Aminu Bello Masari over what it described as the alarming spate of kidnapping and banditry in the state.

About 10 people including two serving councillors from Batsari Local Government of the state were recently kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

The state chairman of the party, Hon. Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, stated this to newsmen shortly after inaugurating the state working committee of ‘Atiku Change the Change for Progress’, held at the party’s Conference Hall on Sunday.

He accused Governor Masari of negligence in his constitutional role of ensuring the safety of lives and property of the citizenry, saying the governor is incompetent to address the security situation of the state.

“In a situation where people are being kidnapped, killed and you are there singing and dancing with musicians. It is inhuman for the governor to call on singers and dancers from Kano State to organise an event in Katsina when there is hunger and poverty in the state.

“If the governor resigns now, he will help himself. If he didn’t resign, he is going by May 29th, 2019. If he resigns now, he may help the people of the state. But either way, he is going,” he said.

According to Majigiri, “The government is not competent enough to handle the issue of security because security is not one of their priorities. If it is one of their priorities, I think they will do more on security.”

However, the state Coordinator of Atiku Change the Change for Progress, Bello Ladan Baki, during the inauguration, assured the people that the group would provide 70 per cent of votes for Atiku in Katsina come 2019.
