One Person Feared Killed As Rival Cults Clashed in Akure

One person was feared killed and several others injured when rival cult groups clashed at Ijapo Area of Akure, Ondo State.

The incident caused pandemonium in the area as people ran for dear lives.

The cause of the clash was still unknown but it reportedly started at about 3:00pm. The identity of the cult group was also yet unknown as at the time of this report.

“We were just hearing gunshots everywhere when they (cultists) started the fight. Everybody had to run for safety, some people ran to the Ijapo Police Station for fear of stray bullets.

“One person among them was seen on the ground after he had been hit with the bullets”, an eye witness said.

It was learnt that a team of policemen from Ijapo Police Station was quickly deployed in the area to restore normalcy.

When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the clash and said eight of the suspected cultists had been arrested while investigation had commenced.

“We have arrested eight of them but I can say for now that we have not received any report that anybody was killed in the clash but our men are already on ground to calm the situation. We have also commenced investigation”, he said.
