Kano Assembly Sets up Panel to Probe Ganduje’s Alleged Bribe Videos

The Kano State House of Assembly has set up a panel to investigate the bribery allegation against Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

In a video trending in the social media, Ganduje was seen collecting bundles of dollar bills believed to be bribe being paid by contractors working in the state.

He was seen stuffing the cash into his babanriga.

Raising a motion yesterday, a member representing Warawa constituency and Majority Leader, Labaran Madari, said the assembly should investigate the authenticity of the video and take necessary actions.

The matter was seconded by Baffa Dan’Agundi, a member representing Kano municipal.

Speaking during the plenary session, Madari said the videos had brought the institution of governance in the state to disrepute.

Danagundi advised the executive arm of government to halt filing a case in court over the alleged video clip.

He said the state assembly has the constitutional mandate to investigate issues like this.

The matter which gained the support of the legislators, was deliberated on the floor of the assembly presided over by Speaker, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum.

While ruling on the deliberation, Rurum constituted a seven-man committee to investigate on the matter and submit its reports within one month.

The committee which is headed by Danagundi, has Labaran Abdul Madari, the Chief Whip and Zubairu Massu as members.

Others are Garba Yau Gwarmai, Abdulaziz Garba Gafasa and Abubakar Uba Galadaima, while Mujitaba Aminu will serve as the committee secretary.

A member of the assembly who pleaded anonymity said they had already found the video to be genuine after a preliminary investigation.

“This is a serious matter that should not be swept under the carpet. We did preliminary investigation and found out the videos are genuine. The committee is just mere formality,” the member was quoted as saying.

“The governor confessed to some of us that it was real but he is now trying to stop us from exercising our constitutional duty.”
