Aspirants of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Gombe State, who contested various positions in the last party primaries but lost, have been encouraged to work for the unity of the party as they approach the 2019 general elections.

Leader of the Party, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, yesterday alongside the party’s standard bearer for the Governorship elections, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, as well as Jamilu Isiaku Gwamna, who left the PDP after failing its governorship primaries took turns to remind them that victory in elections comes from God.

They were therefore encouraged to support the party rather than working against it as that would in turn create the enabling environment for them to thrive and contest again next time.

Senator Goje, a former governor in the state specifically pacified those who lost out in the primaries and assured them that they would be carried along in the governance of the state when it succeeds in the forth-coming election next year.

He commended the courage of the winner of the party’s governorship primaries, Alhaji Yahaya for forgiving those who wronged him, one way or the other, while seeing himself as a very strong commander who needs the support of his soldiers to succeed.

To the party members, Senator Goje urged them to work hard towards victory of the party irrespective of age and position because the party was not deceptive and would deliver its dividends when elected to serve in 2019.

Yahaya, in his remarks, urged the aspirants who lost in the primaries to be patient and persevere saying, “that is the attitude that will lead to victory next time”.

The candidate recalled that the party failed to form government in the state during the 2015 elections as a result of internal wrangling and betrayal of some members, encouraged party members to learn from such lapses and correct them because some of the challenges and issues affecting them could not be tackled unless one was in government.

He specifically promised those who contested for positions in the primaries that they would be in his priority list of cabinet if he succeeds in securing victory in the next election.

For those aspirants from Tangale/Waja (Gombe South senatorial zone), they revealed that the PDP had made a very costly mistake in choosing candidates that may not be acceptable to the people of the area, therefore giving the APC an overriding advantage in the general election next year.
