Club Takes Independence Celebration To Agege

To mark the 58th independence anniversary of Nigeria, the Timeless Impact Club, Lagos took the celebration down to Agege area of Lagos, where they donated some  materials and resources to Agege Maternity Center.

Speaking after donating matresses, fans and pillows to the centre, the club’s president, Tunde Lawal said: “We are here for the community service day of the club. It’s a yearly programme. The last one took place in Abeokuta where we visited an orphanage home, and this year, we decided to come to Agege Maternity after we identified theit needs.”

Lawal, who noted that the club has been committed to giving to the society to ensure lives are saved and community developed, said: “One of the three cardinal objective of our organisation is to impact the society and that is key to our club. We stand for  three basic things; we want to harness opportunities, interact among ourselves and impact the society and environment where we live.

“We are new as a club; we are just four years in existence but we have contributed to the society. Donating materials is one of those things we do for areas whose needs we are able to identify, but if  we are able to identify individuals that needs sponsorship for programmes, academics, or empowerment, we identify and come together and contribute.

“We are a nation that gives but it depends on where we donate to. Some of us decide to give to our family alone but we must learn to give to people outside our family. And that’s what is lacking and what we need to cultivate in Nigeria.

“Everybody needs us and our failure to know that increases the number of ‘area boys’ on the streets. They will be off the road if we generously donate and if they are off the roads, we will be able to move around freely.”

On his part, the vice president of the club and head of community service, Michael Osinoye, who spoke on the donation and the choice of the centre, said they felt they should go to a remote location.

He said: “We felt Agege is one of the locations in Lagos that gets least of government attention. The hospitals in VI, Ikoyi and Ikeja do get lots of attention so, we felt we should support this health centre in our little way.

“What we did wasn’t a coincidence. We have what we call the impact day. We decided to choose October 1 as our impact day because it’s a public holiday and to also mark Nigeria’s Independence Day by giving back to the society.”

In response to their gesture, the Assistant Director, Nursing Services of the hospital, Mrs. Abimbola Oguntokun, said: “We are very grateful for this donation. It was a timely impact because we really needed the items given to us like the mattress, fan, bins and other things. We cannot thank them enough. We pray to God to bless them to come and do more next year.”
