Crisis looms over the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Akwa Ibom State as one of the frontline contestants, and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator John Akpanudoedehe has rejected the result.

At a press conference held in Uyo, the state capital, after the result was announced yesterday, Akpanudoedehe described the primary as fraudulent, adding that it was marred with violence and intimidation of his supporters by his political rivals.

He expressed disappointment in the conduct of the primary in the state, and called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to ensure that justice is done for the party to continue to earn its glory and to protect the hard end democracy.

His words, “I therefore use this medium to reject the entire exercise and the purported result for contravening the guidelines for the primary election.

“I appeal to our National Executive Council of the party to cancel the purported election and order for a fresh one.

“The supposed primary elections fell short of all known parameters of modern democracy.”
