Sokoto Deputy Gov Voted APC Guber Candidate

The Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu, has emerged the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2019 elections in the state.

Aliyu scored 2,282 votes to defeat Alhaji Faruk Yabo, who scored 837 votes.

Declaring the result on Monday in Sokoto, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the APC Governorship Primary Election in the state, Alhaji Sulaiman Abubakar, said the election was contested by four aspirants.

According to him, a total of 3,606 votes were cast out of the 4,600 votes during the primary election.

He stated that Aliyu scored 2,282 votes to defeat Yabo, who scored 837
votes during the election.

Abubakar said Alhaji Abubakar Gumbi, got 70 votes, while Senator Abubakar Gada scored 20 votes.

The chairman of the electoral committee stressed that 397 votes were invalid during the election.

In his acceptance speech, the deputy governor expressed gratitude to
the delegates for electing him as the party’s candidate for the 2019 election.

He pledged to work assiduously towards ensuring unity among party members in the state.

Aliyu to this end, called on those who lost in the contest to support his candidacy in order to ensure the party’s victory in the 2019 elections.

“I really commend the delegates and party supporters for bestowing
confidence in me and I promise to do whatever it takes to justify that,” he stated.

Also speaking, the state APC Chairman, Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, called on all party members to redouble their efforts to ensure APC’s victory in the 2019 elections.

“Our commitment today is to ensure a credible primary election and we will continue to work with unity of purpose to ensure APC’s victory in the 2019 polls,” Achida added.
