Mohammed Gobir’s Roguishness

Mohammed Gobir’s Roguishness

In his halcyon days as a top businessman, Alhaji Mohammed Gobir commanded a lot of respect. While he was envied by many in the industry, many others, who saw him as god-sent, loved him beyond description.

Besides, he was a jolly good fellow who enjoyed life to the fullest.

He threw money around and never got tired of spending it. He was literally the life of many parties.

Such is his power and influence until he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in 2015 for alleged multiple frauds.

Since then, the matter has dragged on so much so that the once jolly and colourful fellow has been forced to take a prolonged ‘leave of absence’ from the social scene apparently to avoid public scrutiny.

Society Watch gathered that at the onset of the trial, he had wrongfully thought that he could escape justice owing to his influence in the society. Indeed, he was said to have boasted that he was untouchable. But four years after, it is “not yet Uhuru for the father of two. For those who can remember, he was taken to court for allegedly defrauding foremost outdoor advertising company, Afromedia, huge sums of money in various currencies, thereby making Gobir an instant multi-millionaire. It was also gathered that Gobir was sued in another matter before Justice Josephine Oyefeso of an Ikeja High Court, Lagos for allegedly defrauding the Kwara State Government of N277 million on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and forgery.
