Foundation for Montessori Education In Nigeria (FMEN) has organised aid to life, an initiative aimed at supporting parents by teaching them basic things they need to do with their children to enhance their natural development.
The foundation disclosed this recently at the three-day event organised by FMEN in conjunction with Zenith Bank, PZ and Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) with the theme; ‘Effective Parenting’.
The Aid to Life Cordinator, FMEN, Yinka Awobo-Pearse, said in parenting, movement is important because once a child starts to move, they are able to move properly.
She also noted that parents need to spend time with their children because when they do, they are able to observe things about them, which she noted that nobody would reveal to them, not even teachers.
Awobo-Pearse explained that people understand the right thing to do, but they need to be reminded, adding that due to the pressures of life, these information goes into the back of their minds.
The coordinator further stated that they are eager to continue the partnership because they aim to use the initiative to educate parents so that they can support their children.
She added that through the training parents would be able to give their children the skills they need “so that when their children gets to school age, which is three years in Nigeria, they have the skills that will make them competent and successful in their academic career.
“SUBEB has given us permission to work with Agege Local Government Authority and so this is the first time we are working with Lagos State Government. It is going well. It is for three days, there are two more days left.
“We are not stopping in Agege, now that we have a meeting with SUBEB, we will go back to them for any other local government area that is open to this training. From what I saw today, somebody came from SUBEB and they seem to be interested in the initiative.
“We are also eager to continue the partnership because our aim with this initiative is educate parents so that they can support their children, so when that their children gets to school age, they have the skills that will make them competent and successful in their academic career.
