Some Elders forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have rejected the purported adoption of indirect mode of primaries by the national leadership of the party for the state to pick the governorship candidate of the party ahead of the next year general elections.

They described the mode as tyrannical and would not produce acceptable candidate that would win the election.

The national leadership of the APC has announced the indirect primaries as a mode to pick the governorship candidate of the party in the state.

The event is slated for this Saturday September 29, this year in Ilorin, the state capital.

Speaking at a press conference in Ilorin on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the elders of the party, Alhaji Lasisi Jimoh, said that, instead of using indirect, the national leadership should adopt direct primaries so as to give all the aspirants as playing level ground to show their popularity among themselves.

According to him, “We are opposed to anything that will impede our chances of winning elections in 2019, one of such the thing is indirect primaries and this can affect our chances in the state”.

He said “Let all the aspirants go to the field and test their popularity among members of the party”.

Jimoh noted that the national leadership of the party led by Adams Oshiomohle, should allow the wishes of the members of the party in the state to prevail so as to ensure optimum result during the next year general elections by adopting direct primaries in the state.

He pointed out that, “APC is a party to beat in Kwara State today and it has become the choice of the residents of the state adding that, “the only way to sustain it is to allow direct primaries to thrive in the emergence of the governorship candidate of the party in the state”.

Jimoh opined further that adopting indirect primary would amount to swapping a despot for another tyrant whom he said was inimical to the success of the party during the elections.

He therefore appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, Ahmed Tinubu and APC national chairman, Oshiomole, not to succumb to any obnoxious plan to sabotage the chances of the party through adoption of indirect primaries in the state.
