Flood Kills 108, Injures 192, Destroys 13,031 Houses, Says FG

The federal government yesterday hinted that at least 108 people died, 192 injured and 13,031 houses destroyed in the flood disaster that has hit 12 states and destroyed 122,653 hectares of agricultural land as a result of high water levels.

This was made known yesterday in a statement issued by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as part of its second assessment of the flood disaster.

A statement by the agency’s Head of Media and Public Relations, Sani Datti, in Abuja, disclosed that, the flood disaster has made141, 369 Nigerians, internally displaced.

According to him, an additional 80,642 persons were living with family, friends.

The statement further revealed that, 13,031 houses have so far been destroyed or damaged, with 122,653 hectares of agricultural land destroyed.

“Moderate to heavy rain falls are forecasted to continue across Nigeria during the week ( September 25 – October 1), with continued high risk of additional flooding,” NEMA said.

NEMA pleaded with well-meaning individual in the society for assistance to all affected states

“Shelter, food, medicines, and NFIs (mosquito nets, mats, hygiene kits, family kits) remain priority needs. Responders are still requesting for speed boats to reach flooded areas and GPS for mapping,” NEMA added.
