WORLD PARA POWERLIFTING:  Nigeria 2019 Mascot, Logo Launch for Oct. 9 in Lagos

The Main Organising Committee for the International Para Powerlifting Competition, Nigeria 2019 at the weekend decided on a number activities aimed at successfully hosting the world biennial event in Lagos from January 28 to 30 next year.
At the well-attended meeting presided over by the Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kwekwu Tandor, the MOC chose Tuesday October 9, 2018 for the formal presentation of the Competition’s logo and mascot and charged the marketing and media sub-committees to put heads together and ensure both indents are ready and approved by the larger body before then.
Underscoring the need for increased awareness for the competition, the MOC appointed the Chairman/CEO, HS Media Group, Taye Ige, who had been invited to the meeting as the CEO of HotSports, the marketing support Agency to Friesland CampinaWAMCO, a sponsors of the Competition, as the head of media and urged him and other sub-Committee members to work assiduously and come up with strategies and plans to publicise the event.
On when activities would pick up towards January, Dr Tandor first clarified that while the MOC would develop the necessary guidelines, the LOC, when set up, would be expected to execute the Project in line with those guidelines.
He identified procurement of equipment to be used by the athletes during the Games, Team Nigeria preparation and participation, transportation, international participants logistics and television production and broadcast/ transmission of the event across the world as areas that the federal government would be expected to take care of while Lagos, the host city, would take responsibility for venues, accommodation (which includes feeding), intra-city transport, medicals, security, ceremonials, protocol and related logistics.
Members were unanimous in their belief that timely approval and release of funds by the federal government is a major factor in determining overall success.
On her part, Queen Uboh, President, Para Powerlifting Federation of Nigeria, said even though a budget had been submitted to the presidency and the Ministry of sports respectively this was yet to be approved and confirmed ongoing engagement with the bureaucracy on the matter. She later called on corporate Nigeria to come to the aid of the Organisers in their quest to put up a Championship worthy of the name of “our great country” .
Uboh was particularly full of praises to FrieslandCampinaWAMCO, makers of Peak milk, who have already signed up on the Project, committing to the purchase of a wheelchair-accessible van, details of which are being worked out.
