Aworo Mayowa Elizabeth is a fashion model, a young girl from Lagos who is passionate about her career and is determined to succeed. In this chat with Tosin Clegg, she talks about modelling, becoming a global brand and a lot more
How did your modelling career start?
Venturing into modelling wasn’t a planned thing; right from school everyone always told me I’d look great if I modelled and fortunately, I got scouted by a very good agency in Africa. I was a bit skeptical because I wasn’t used to all the flash and the camera.
Why modelling and what difference are you bringing in?
Modelling, because it’s now a passion, I love being pretty; I’m sure every other young lady does and the only difference a model can bring is her great personality. So, the difference will be my personality in its rich original form, and definitely not to be just an African model but to be discovered and celebrated by the world.
Tell us about the shows you have graced?
I’ve done lots of shows and walked on the runway of major African and international designers, such as at the Lagos Fashion and Design Week, Arise Fashion Week, GTBank Fashion Weekend, Bridal Fashion Week, to mention a few. I’ve also worked for Grey, Kareema Mak, Fashpa, Shopmaju, Debra’s Grace and many more.
Would you say modelling has contributed a lot to the development of young girls?
Yes, it has tremendously; it’s helped young girls become independent bosses right from a very young age. It helps us to think on our feet and, most of all, it’s a very good start for a bright future
Who are your role models?
My role models in the modelling world will be Naomi Campbell and Iman, because they are black women who are at the very top and have stayed relevant over the years.
