The Sokoto State Police Command has cautioned youths against thuggery ahead of the party primary elections in the state.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cordelia Nwawe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), gave the warning during a chat with newsmen in Sokoto on Sunday.

She said the warning became necessary  following the re-emergence of thugs in Sokoto metropolis.

The PPRO warned that the command would deal decisively with anyone
found engaging in thuggery in the state.

According to her, the command would embark on a 24 -hour patrol in all nooks and crannies of the state in order to curtail the ugly trend.

She vowed to take action within the ambit of the law to protect the
lives of the people.

“Sokoto Police Command is determined to take any action within the ambit of the law to protect lives and properties of the citizens.

“Therefore, we are determined to deal decisively with any individual trying to breach peace in the state,” she said.

Nwawe called on the public to assist the police with useful information in order to curtail the menace of thuggery in the state.

She said they could do this by reporting any criminal activity in any area for prompt action.

Nwawe also appealed to politicians in the state to play according to the rules and avoid anything capable of breaching the peace.

The PPRO, to this end, urged parents in the state to monitor their wards so as to prevent them from engaging in thuggery.
