FG to Commercialise NIPOST for Efficiency, Competitiveness

The Chairman of the Board of the Nigeria Postal Services (NIPOST), Maimuna Yaya Abubakar, has disclosed that the agency  will  be commercialised to make it efficient, competitive and profitable.
She disclosed this  when she led members of the board  on a working visit to the Kaduna  NIPOST zonal office.
In an interview with newsmen shortly after inspecting facilities at the Post Office along Yakubu Gowon Way, Kaduna, she said
NIPOST will leverage on the new technologies to render effective and efficient services.
Abubakar said the agency cannot continue to  depend on government funding for its operations.
She  expressed dismay over NIPOST’s dilapidated structures across the country, assuring that the new board under her leadership will do all within its power to rehabilitate the structures.
She commended the staff of the zonal office for operating under poor working environment, assuring that efforts are being made to improve the situation of things.
Abubakar urged the staff to continue to put in their best by embracing the use of Information Technology (ICT) for efficient services.
She said: “I have been to many NIPOST offices across the country and I have  seen the state of things and we are  going to work hard towards changing or giving NIPOST a new face.
“I  just assumed office  a few months ago. I am worried about the salaries, I  must say that the salaries  are  not something that can motivate people to work.
“We  will try and initiate policies that actually affect the lives of the workers positively.
“I am optimistic that NIPOST will be bigger than what it is today.
“We are determined to improve our services to be in competition with the world postal services. This is our dream. NIPOST need a lot of improvement.  Even the structures are in bad shape. “They don’t have  furniture,  the working  environment  is not conducive. For you to put in your best, you need a condusive working  environment. We will see to it that all these things are changed in good time”.
