As Enyimba steps out today to play a CAF Confederation Cup Group C decider against Congo’s CARA Brazzaville on their newly refurbished stadium turf, the indigenous firm that re-grassed the pitch, Monimichelle, has been given kudos for a job well done.
Former Super Eagles player and coach Austin Eguavoen who led some
Nigerian ex internationals to play a novelty match on the pitch against former Enyimba stars last Sunday, was delighted with the quality of the playing pitch.
It was the first time in three years that Aba fans were returning to the People’s Elephant arena.
Speaking after the Sunday novelty game which the Abia State government used to officially open the arena, the ex internationals said Monimichelle did a fantastic job.
Eguavoen said playing on the geo-tech pitch reminded him of his playing days in Europe.
“This Enyimba pitch reminds me of my hey days in Europe. This pitch is fantastic. My plea is that it should be maintained. Abia State government must go into a solid arrangement with Monimichelle on its year round maintenance. The deal they have must not end with the construction. Maintenance is key,” Eguavoen stressed.
Another former Super Eagles defender Taribo West said he enjoyed playing on the turf declaring it as fabulous.
“I must give kudos to Monimichelle for doing a good job. This is a positive development for indigenous firms. Ordinarily, nobody would give a Nigerian firm this kind of job. For Monimichelle to have delivered this way, I say kudos and more grease to his elbow.”
Samson Siasia on his part said he is impressed with what he saw, even as he urged Monimichelle to keep up the standard.
“I enjoyed playing here. Nice pitch, good job by Monimichelle. My message to the company and her Chief Executive Officer, Ebi Egbe is keep it up.”
The Enyimba, CARA clash is billed to kick off by 5 pm same time with the other match of the group involving Ivorian side Williamsville and Djoliba of Mali.
