The members of the Ambode Deaf Solidarity Movement have endorsed the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, for a second term in office.
Speaking during a recent road walk in Lagos, the state Chairman, Lagos APC Deaf Group, Onifade Fatai, said the administration of Ambode has endeared him to all, especially the vulnerable and the less-privileged.
He also noted that the group had received assistance from Ambode’s administration, ranging from empowerment tools and equipment, adding that financial grants were also given to them.
Fatai added that the state governor has also created social welfare regime that impacted the lives of people with disabilities by offsetting in part or total sum of the medical bills.
“It is on record that Ambode instituted Disability Entrepreneurship Trust Funds (DETF) to empower Lagos disability community, while other governors were looting the treasury. But Ambode is helping the needy in the state. He is doing his best to improve the lives of those at the bottom of ladder, hence the public declaration of our acceptance of his performance and to categorically endorse him for the second term re-election as the Governor of Lagos state, in the forthcoming 2019 general election,” he said
On his part, the Secretary of the group, Adewale Adeyanju, assured the governor that they have their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVCs) to exercise their franchise during the general election.
In another development, the Deaf Clusters Group of the People with Disability (PWDs) has appealed to the state government for the implementation of the policy framework that cater for person hearing disabilities, noting that they have a quota to contribute in the task of nation building.
The guest speaker and state Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Waheed Ishola, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that it provides mobile accreditation for PWDs in the forthcoming election to avoid the issue of vote buying is minimised and provide coverings during vote casting.
He also tasked the PWDs to get their PVCs, stating that nobody would be allowed to vote and issuance of the card would end days to the election.
