Friends, Family Plan Big for Ras Kimono’s Funeral

Nigerian reggae artiste, Ras Kimono’s debut album, Under Pressure, followed by a single, ‘Rum-Bar Stylée’, pushed him to becoming a big hit in the Nigerian music scene in 1989. 

Before he released his solo album, he was in a group called The Jastix along with Amos McRoy and Majek Fashek. He died in June in a private hospital and the announcement of his death was too heavy for a lot of people to bear. A burial committee has been constituted to give the late Ras Kimono a befitting burial by several bodies, both home and abroad, who have come together to plan a wide range of events. 

The series of events would hold in Lagos between August 20 and 26, which includes a social wake keep at his residence followed by a Reggae Dancehall Party at his residence as well. Premier Music tribute night to Ras Kimono at 

Freedom Park; Coson Tribute to Ras Kimono at Coson House; and a lot more before à final procession to his hometown, Olona in Delta State for his final burial.
