National Council on N’Delta to Address Security, Devt, Others

The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs is set to hold its third regular meeting of the National Council on Niger Delta in Umuahia, Abia State between July 22 and 27, 2018.

The ministry in a statement issued by the Director (Press), Mr. Marshall Gundu said the  meeting,  with the theme, “Fostering synergy and institutional coordination for development in the Niger Delta region,” would address many issues, including infrastructure , environmental management, human capital development, security, and agriculture, among others,  affecting the Niger Delta region.

The statement recalled that the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, while addressing stakeholders at the second National Council held in Akure,  Ondo State in September 2017, directed the ministry to ensure that the Council on Niger Delta meets regularly in order to fast-tract the development of the oil-rich  region.
“It is of note that since the creation of the ministry in 2008, it only held its first National Council on Niger Delta in 2013 until this administration held the second edition four years after in 2017.

“The determination of the President Muhammadu Buhari- led administration to ensure consistency of the meeting of the Council on Niger Delta has resulted in the planned 3rd National Council.

“Various stakeholders, civil societies, development partners saddled with the responsibility of developing the Niger Delta region will feature at the council meeting to be chaired by the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani, supported by the Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs, Prof. Claudius Omoleye Daramola, while the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Aminu Aliyu Bisalla will lead the technical sessions,” the statement concluded.
