Colombia’s Carlos Sanchez on Tuesday afternoon emerged the first player to be sent off here at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in the Mordovia Arena in Saransk, Russia.
He was sent off for handling the ball in the penalty area in just the 3rd minute of the Group H clash between Colombia and Japan.
Shinji Kagawa converted the resultant penalty for Japan
Sanchez’s red card is the second fastest in FIFA World Cup history after Uruguay’s Sergio Batista was sent off inside the first minute in 1986.
