Police Arrest Suspected Drug Trafficker in Katsina

Following the proscription of codeine in Nigeria, the Katsina State Police Command has intercepted a Honda Civic vehicle loaded with six cartons of cough syrup, containing 300 bottles suspected to contain codeine valued at N1.5 million.

The vehicle with registration number AQ475DKA, according to the police, was driven by one Nura Aliyu of Tsohuwar Tasha, suspected to be a drug trafficker.

Parading the suspect before newsmen on Wednesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Gambo Isah, said the police patrol team attached to the commissioner of police’s Surveillance Squad while on routine patrol nabbed the suspect on Tuesday.

“The Katsina State Police Command intercepted a motor vehicle Honda Civic, dark in colour, covered with tinted glasses, with registration AQ 475 DKA loaded with 300 bottles of cough syrup suspected to be codeine, driven by one Nura Aliyu ‘m’ of Tsohuwar Tasha, Katsina on Tuesday at about 21000hourS,” he said.

The police spokesman further stated that Aliyu was arrested along Senator Abba Ali’s road in the wee hours of Tuesday, adding that the suspect has confessed to have been in the business of drug trafficking and distribution to his consumers in the state.

While assuring the people that the suspect will be arraigned in court immediately after investigation is completed, Isah admonished youths to distance themselves from any act that could tarnish their reputations.
