Kola Abiola Receives Father’s National Honour, Ganiat Fawehinmi Stands in for Late Husband

Mr. Kola Abiola, son of the acclaimed winner of June 12, 1993 presidental election, Tuesday received the posthumous national honour conferred on his father Chief MKO Abiola, by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The award of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), reserved for Nigerian presidents, was conferred on Chief Abiola.

Abiola’s running mate, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, received the award of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), an award reserved for Nigerian vice presidents.

Ganiat Fawehinmi, wife of late human rights and pro-democracy activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, received the award of GCON bestowed on her late husband.

The awards were bestowed on them by President Buhari at a well-attended ceremony at the State House, Abuja.
