The Sokoto State government is working in concert with the council and
management of the Sokoto State University to establish faculties of
Medicine, Engineering and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in
the institution.

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal stated this at the inauguration of the
new executives of the Federated Organisation of Sokoto State Students
Association (FOSOSSA) in Sokoto at the weekend.

He stated that the construction of the three new faculties would be
executed through direct labour.

According to him, competent professionals would be engaged in
designing the faculties.

“Professionals comprising retired and serving engineers will be
utilised for the project,”he said.

He posited that the idea behind the project was to improve the
activities of the institution.

The governor emphasised that the state university would be run in line
with national standards.

Tambuwal said the present government was doing its best to address the
infrastructure challenges confronting state-owned tertiary institutions which included Shehu Shagari College of Education, College of Midwifery Tambuwal, Sultan Abdularahman College of Health Technology Gwadabawa and College of Nursing Sokoto.

He assured the students that government would soon appoint a special adviser on students matters in the state.

While congratulating the youths for the signing into Law of ‘Not Too Young to Run Bill’ , Tambuwal stressed that his
administration would continue to partner with them for the progress of the state.

He therefore admonished the new FOSOSSA leadership to operate with
listening ears and the students to always be law abiding and good
ambassadors of the state.
