Police Dismiss Three Cops for Indiscpline, Undue Harrassment

The Lagos State Police Command Sunday said it had dismissed three policemen for acts of indiscipline and undue harassment of a citizen, which almost led to his death.
The policemen, identified as Inspector Momoh Sulaiman, Sergeant Emmanuel Monday and  Sergeant Adamu Usman, had on Friday last week accosted one
Mr. Ademuwagun Temitope Solomon and tear-gassed him.
The victim, who was said to be asthmatic, had passed out immediately he was teargassed in front of Chinese Town, Ojota.
Although the viral video that showed the accident alleged that the victim was dead, the police countered the allegation, claiming that the man was later revived.
Upon receipt of the said video, the state Commissioner of Police Imohimi Edgal ordered the arrests of the policemen.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, confirmed the arrest and subsequent dismissal of the errant policemen.
He said: “In keeping with its promise to regularly update Lagosians about the activities of the command, the Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that the Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal, has dismissed three policemen.
“This comprises an inspector and two sergeants who were alleged to have sprayed tear gas on Mr. Ademuwagun Temitope Solomon which provoked severe asthmatic crisis in him. The incident took place at Chinese town, Ojota area of Lagos State.
“The men whose names and service numbers are: (1) 220957 Inspector Momoh Sulaiman, (2) 429659 Sgt. Emmanuel Monday and (3) 434246 Sgt. Adamu Usman, were tried in an orderly room which commenced on Saturday.
“They were found guilty as charged. They were therefore dismissed and de-kitted accordingly.
“However, the dismissal proceeding of Inspector Momoh Sulaiman has been forwarded to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 for approval.
“Similarly, the command wishes to use this medium to release its half year disciplinary record for the period spanning from January to June, 2018.
“The officers were tried in a properly constituted orderly room and were found guilty of various offences against discipline which earned them appropriate punishments depending on the charges against them.
“Below is the breakdown of types of  punishment awarded to deserving officers : dismissal = eight, reduction in rank = four, major entry = 43, severe reprimand = three, extra fatigue = four, warning notice = 28 and cases of discharged and acquitted = five, totalling it to 92.
“The commissioner of police said this would serve as a deterrent to other policemen wishing to toe the path of infamy, that the Nigeria Police under the watch of the Inspector General of Police, have no room for them.
“He warned all serving police officers to be professional at all times in the discharge of their duties and shun corrupt practices.”
