Ramadan: Muslims, Mothers Charged to Promote Peace

As Muslim faithful continue to observe the holy month of Ramadan, mothers across the country have been charged to train their children in the fear of God for a peaceful society.

At a Ramadan lecture held in Lagos, the leader of the socio-political group, Igbalani Movement Lagos Island local government, Mrs. Ola Williams called on Muslims, especially mothers to train their children in line with the tenets of Islam.

“Seeing the level of delinquencies in the society, I urge mothers to be proactive in containing the menace through proper early training of their children,” she said.

Williams, who spoke on the theme ‘Roles and Importance of Mothers in the Society’, described the Ramadan lecture and apt for today’s society and motherhood.

She added: “Mother is indispensable. She is most responsible for the success of the children because right from a very tender age, the child is provided with motherly love and care.”

Continuing, she described the mother as one who bears the child for nine months, delivers, cuddles, prays, feeds and nurtures the child till he or she grows old.

“I carefully chose this theme because many children today have little or no regard for their mothers, especially this locality.

“And that is one of the main reasons we are having many cases of crime and unrest in this area. But by the grace of God I was able to mentor them, and today they have change for good,” she said.

Alluding to the All Progressives Congress, APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Lagos Island Ward C1 Woman Leader further called on the Muslim faithful to spread love, peace and remain truthful in whatever they do.

“I thank our father Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for showing love and care to us. Like him, every Muslim and leader should always show love and remain truthful in whatever they do,” he urged.

Meanwhile, Williams commended the Lagos State governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode for his leadership quality.

“Governor Ambode greatly surprised many who doubted his capability when he assumed office. Council chairmen and Muslim leaders in position of authority to emulate him,” she recommended.

According to her, even clerics are not left out. “Same goes for clerics. They should prioritise the welfare of the worshippers”.

In his lecture, Muhammadu Taofik Gasikiya, while commending mothers on their roles and importance in nation building, enjoined them to train their children in God’s way.

The cleric condemned the attitudes of some mothers who are fond of cursing their children. “Mother is the child’s first teacher before going to school for formal education.”

“Rather than wipe or pass negative comments always, pray for them to be responsible to themselves and to the society,” he said.
