Enelamah, Others Harp on Diversification at RCCG’s Economic Summit

The need for Nigerians to become players and not spectators in the country’s dream beyond oil formed the fulcrum of discussion at the maiden Economic Summit by the Redeemed Christian Church of God Men’s Fellowship (RMF) Region 19. The summit, held at RCCG’s Regional Headquarters, Acme, Ikeja, Lagos, paraded notable speakers, which included the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah who presented a paper on ‘The Nigeria Dream Beyond Oil’. Enelamah outlined the various plans and programmes of the federal government to move from dependence on oil to include stabilisation of the macro-economic environment, achieving agriculture and food security, ensuring energy sufficiency in power as well as improving transportation infrastructure and drive industrialisation focusing on small and medium enterprises.

While seeking support and understanding of the populace on government’s efforts to revamp the economy, he said this will be better achieved if Nigerians take keener interest in governance through active participation. Enelamah’s views were corroborated by other speakers including Pastor Brown Oyitso, the Special Assistant to General Overseer (Missions) and the Regional RMF Coordinator, Pastor Amos Emovon.

Oyitso, Pastor in Charge of Region 19, who in his welcome address stated that if Nigeria is to look beyond oil, “we need to deliberately do some things differently such as focus on agriculture, local manufacturing, fiscal diversification and knowledge based economy.” Emovon, who doubles as the PIC Lagos Province 44, while giving the reasons for organising the conference, noted that the recent economic recession resulting from the glut in the oil sector presented huge risks as well as significant opportunity for Nigeria’s economic renaissance. He said the conference was meant to make participants understand the times and receive direction on what to do. Pastor Remi Oluboba, the National RMF Coordinator who represented the National Overseer and National Chairman of RMF, Pastor Joseph Obayemi, told the participants that RMF is an avenue to transform lives through faith, finance, fitness and family.
