Family Formally Announces Passage of Olakunri

The family of Mr. Simeon Olakunri (SAN) has formally announced the passage of Africa’s first female Chartered Accountant, Mrs. Olutoyin Olakunri, who died at 80 last Sunday.

This was contained in a statement signed by one of her children, Mrs. Susan Omame issued wednesday, noting that Olakunri is survived by her husband, seven children and 14 grandchildren.

According to the statement, it is with a deep sense of loss and profound gratitude to God that we announce the passing of our wife, sister, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Olutoyin Olusola Olakunri, on June 3, 2018.

The statement said the Olakunri was a mother “to many, full of warmth and wit. Amongst her several virtues, she was an encourager, confidante and counsellor. She enriched the lives of family, friends and associates and will be sorely missed.”

Apart from being the first female Chartered Accountant in Africa, the statement added that Olakunri recorded many firsts in her professional career and that she was an inspiration to many women in particular.

“Our pain is raw, but we thank God for our mother’s purposeful life and for the many legacies she left behind. Details of the funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.”
