A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna wednesday granted bail to the former Governor of Kaduna State, Ramalan Yero, and three others.

The presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Shuaibu, granted each of the accused persons bail in the sum of N1million and two sureties in like sum.

The court also ordered the accused persons to deposit their international passports to the court registrar.

Yero, along with former Minister of State for Power, Nuhu Wya, former Kaduna State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Haruna Gaya, and the former Secretary to the Kaduna State Government during the Yero administration, Hamza Ishaq, was remanded in prison on May 31, 2018, following their arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a four-count charge bordering on money laundering, criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of public funds and breach of trust involving N700 million said to be the share of PDP for disbursement during the 2015 elections.

Ruling on the bail application filed by their counsel, Yunus Ustaz (SAN), Justice Shuaibu
said the sureties must own a landed property in Kaduna Sate.

The prosecution counsel had kicked against the bail, arguing that the defendants were likely to jump bail if granted them.
The presiding judge however ruled that the offence was a bailable offence. The matter was adjourned till September 26, 2018, for hearing.
