The Ekiti State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspects for allegedly dealing in adulterated diesel.
The suspects were arrested with 15,000 litres of the product, according to the NSCDC Commandant in Ekiti, Mr. Solomon Iyamu .

The suspects, Olagunju Mukaila, 40, who is a driver and Olanrewaju Lukman, a 39-year-old motor boy, were arrested in Ikere-Ekiti, with fake waybill and other counterfeit letterhead papers of oil companies from Warri, Delta State around 7:20 hours on Friday June 1, 2018.

Iyamu disclosed that the arrest were made following intelligence report from the officers and men of the anti-vandal squad.

Following this report, Iyamu stated that the command launched a manhunt on the trailer loaded with the 15,000 litres of adulterated diesel believed to have been refined locally from the creeks.

Iyamu, while parading the suspects in front of newsmen at the headquarters of the NSCDC in Ekiti State along Ado/Afao road, said upon investigation, it was reliably gathered that the owner of the
adulterated diesel refused to show up and probably on the run for now, knowing the weight of the offence.

“A sample tested from the product showed that it is below the standard
specified by DPR, saying such a case is an economic sabotage which attracts stiffer penalties and such act will not be condoled by NSCDC,” he said.

Iyamu pointed out that the case will be transferred to a competent court of jurisdiction by the corps after the conclusion of the investigation.

Warning residents of the state to maintain law and order during the July 14, 2018 governorship election in the state, Iyamu said the command is fully prepared for the election.

He called on politicians to play the game according to the rule, urging them to be law abiding and to shun “a do-or-die” politics, adding that anybody who behaves in any criminal manner would be arrested let the law take its course.

He posited that “there would be deployment of NSCDC personnel to beef
up security to protect lives and property before, during and after the election.

The two suspects while speaking with newsmen denied knowing the true state of the content of the diesel if it’s illegal or legal, saying they were contacted to carry the content to a location in Ekiti State.
