Newly elected Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Cyril Ogodo, yesterday in Asaba inaugurated the State Working Committee (SWC) and respective local government executive bodies of the party, declaring the determination of the APC to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and unseat the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa government come 2019.

Ogodo, who was inaugurated alongside 33 new state chairmen of the party by the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, stressed that it was time for all leaders and members of the party to close ranks and work hard to ensure victory in 2019 general election and future elections in the state.

Speaking while inaugurating the SWC and local government officials of the party, the state chairman charged the new leadership to go back home to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party for the enormous task ahead.
He however, pointed out that there was no faction or crisis in the APC in Delta State, adding that what played out during the last congresses was “only a demonstration of interest in a normal democratic setting rather than a crisis.”

The state chairman noted that the APC believes in the principle of inclusiveness, saying the leaders in the state was determined to reach out to any aggrieved person as “the party was big enough to accommodate all interests and provide a level field for all APC aspirants to various positions during the 2019 election.

Ogodo, who said the exercise represented “a beginning”, charged the new leadership in the state and the generality of members of the party to join hands to sensitise the people of the state on the achievements of the federal government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari in the last three years.

He said with the glaring performance of the party in the country “there is no alternative to APC in the forthcoming elections in 2019” because the party would defeat every political gang-up against the Buhari administration come 2019.

According to Ogodo, the party has so endeared itself to Nigerians that the re-election of Buhari was a forgone conclusion.

Ogbodo said, “APC has come to stay and at the moment no party can defeat the ruling APC in 2019 because the President Buhari government has turned around things for Nigerians. It will be too costly for Nigerians to jettison Buhari who is fast turning around the fortunes of Nigeria.

“In our state (Delta), this is a sign of a new beginning in our party. PDP in the last 20 years has misused the resources of our state; in 2019 we shall bring to an end this ugly government in our dear state.

“Let me also inform the people of Delta State that there is no crisis in APC. There is no faction as well. We are pleading with some of our leaders who may be aggrieved by the results of the congress to accept it as the will of God that it is not their turn. We should all unite to dislodge Okowa and PDP from government in 2019.”

The oath of office was administered on the officers by Mr. Nelson Enumah and Mr. Ashibogwu Ashibogwu, who doubled as the Delta APC Legal Adviser.

A group loyal to Senator Omo-Agege, who represents Delta Central in the National Assembly, last week claimed it had inaugurated its own SWC and local government executive committees, an action the state leader of the party, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, described as an exercise in futility as it was done in disregard of the rules and regulations of the NWC of the APC.
The event was attended by leaders and members of the party from the 26 local government areas.
