  Ahead of the national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), major stakeholders and kinsmen of the party’s National Vice Chairman, South-east, Mr. Emma Eneukwu, yesterday endorsed a former Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, to replace their kinsman.
The APC stakeholders who united under the platform of Enugu West Peoples Assembly (EWPA), also backed the former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, for the party’s national chairmanship.
Addressing journalists at 9th Mile in Udi Local Government Area, the leader of the group, Ogbuefi Okey Obasi-Orji, said the zone was disenchanted with Eneukwu’s performance in the last four years, hence their decision to seek for a replacement.
“How can we continue to support a man who in four years could not even win a councillorship seat? As we speak, in Obinagu where he hails from, you cannot see a single APC flag or office any where. We are tired. At this point, we desire a positive change,†he said.
They accused the outgoing National Vice Chairman of working against President Muhammadu Buhari when he wanted to recover his mandate shortly after the 2007 presidential election at the tribunal.
“He has used his office as the National Vice Chairman to cause confusion, disharmony and factionalisation in all the states of the South-east, including Enugu State resulting in the party’s poor performance in elections. Under his watch, he got only three per cent of votes for President Buhari during the last election in the zone.
“In Enugu APC, there are people that have been spending their money when the party was not a beautiful bride and were insulted and called names but they remained resolute.
“Nnamani alone branded 20 buses for the presidential campaigns in 2015 and led the campaign for Buhari’s election,†he said, adding that the former SSG possessed the magic wand to lead the party to victory in the zone by 2019.
On the issue of zoning, the stakeholders who came in their numbers said national offices were zoned to the states and not at the senatorial levels, stressing that anybody from any part of Enugu state was eminently qualified to seek for the position allotted to the state.
