Police Make U-Turn, Rescind Invitation to Saraki to Report at Force HQ

*Give Senate President 48-hours to explain his role in Offa robbery in writing

By Senator Iroegbu in Abuja

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has made dramatic change of position in the invitation issued to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over his alleged link to the Offa Banks robbery incident in Kwara State.

In a letter  to Saraki through his ADC, the Police denied asking him to appear before any of its Divisions, Commands or Stations for questioning.
But the Force Public Relations Officer (PRO) Moshood Jimoh had in a statement on Sunday said: ” The Senate President, Sen. Bukola Saraki is being invited by the Nigeria Police Force to report to the Force Intelligence Response Team office at Guzape, Abuja to answer to the allegations levelled against him from the confessions of the five gang leaders, namely; Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibukunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran and some of the other 17 suspects arrested for direct involvement and active participation in the Offa Bank Robbery and the gruesome killing of 33 innocent persons, including (some pregnant women and nine Police personnel).”
This seems to have changed as the information getting to THISDAY at the time of this report revealed that the police, in a four-paragraphs letter to Saraki through his ADC, only asked him to respond to the allegations in writing and not to appear in person as earlier demanded.
According to sources close to both the NPF and the Senate President, the Police had in the letter asked the Saraki to instead write a statement, explaining his roles in the robbery and purported ties to the five gang leaders and 17 other principal suspects.
