Mid-Engine Alfa Romeo 8C Supercar, Giulia GTV Coupe Confirmed

Fiat Chrysler presented its highly anticipated future product strategy today and the Italian-American automaker didn’t disappoint.

Part of its five-year plan will include a wide expansion of its Alfa Romeo premium brand. The most exciting products in Alfa’s future strategy will be the 600+ hp Giulia-based GTV Coupe and a 700+ HP 8C supercar with a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged engine.

The GTV Coupe will likely tap the Giorgio rear-wheel drive platform that currently serves in the sedan, along with the twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 engine. But with an electric drive system applied to the front axle, the two-door will make over 600 hp and will feature all-wheel drive. It will also have 50:50 weight distribution and seating for four.

The 8C, meanwhile, will be a mid-engine supercar with a carbon fiber monocoque much like the 4C’s. It will also feature a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged engine, likely the 2.9-liter V6, along with an electrified front axle. FCA claims it will make over 700 hp and will be able to hustle from 0-60 mph in under three seconds.

Alfa’s five-year plan also includes the introduction of a new Giulietta hatchback, a new compact utility vehicle, next-generation versions of the Giulia and Stelvio and a BMW X5-sized utility vehicle. It also appears as though the company wants to offer the Giulia and Stelvio in long wheelbase form, potentially in an attempt to woo American and Chinese buyers with a penchant for larger vehicles.

The Alfa lineup will also be 100% electrified going forward. Either FCA’s 48V system or a full hybrid system will appear in all of its future vehicles. The company wants all of its future cars to have SAE Level 3 or Level 4 autonomy as well.

It says two of the products will be focused to regional areas to meet specific needs. If we had to wager, we’d say the compact utility vehicle and next-generation Giulietta will be European products only.

All of these products are set to come to market by 2022.
