Over 20 Burnt to Death in Ondo Auto Crash

An auto accident involving two vehicles along Epinmi/Isua Akoko in Akoko South East Local Government Area of Ondo State had left over 20 person roasted to death.

The accident, which also left many other people seriously injured, happened yesterday involving a 14-seater commercial bus heading towards Lagos had a head on collision with an unregistered vehicle heading towards Abuja.

An eyewitness explained that the accident occurred when the driver of the unregistered Tokunbo Range Rover SUV, driven by a  military officer, overtook some  cars along the Epinmi road and rammed into the on coming commercial bus.

He said the two caught fire immediately after the collision while most of the passengers in the   commercial vehicle were trapped in the inferno.
He said it took the intervention of the residents of the community to rescue some of the victims while some of the passengers were burnt beyond recognition.

He, however, said the drivers of the two vehicles survived the accident but were seriously injured and rushed to a hospital.
It was gathered that men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) from Ikare Akoko Unit who were alerted about the incident and immediately rushed to the scene for rescue operation.

They reportedly evacuated the corpses to Ikare-Akoko Specialist Hospital mortuary.
Confirming the incident,  the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)  Femi Joseph, described the accident as a horrible one, saying it was due to reckless driving on the part of one of the drivers.

He said more death were recorded after the initial death toll of 20 at the scene of the incident, saying some of the victims died at the hospital due to the degrees of burns sustained during the accident.
“The number of people who lost their lives were over 20 and it was due to the recklessness of the driver because the Range Rover SUV involved collided with the commercial bus. It was so horrifying.”
