Police to Investigate Death Threats on Karius

Merseyside Police are investigating death threats made to Liverpool goalkeeper, Loris Karius, following his side 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev on Saturday, according to reports in England.

Karius put up an abysmal display in the game and was at fault for two of the goals conceded by the Reds in the encounter.

He threw the ball directly towards French striker Karim Benzema who scored the opener for Real Madrid and also fumbled a shot from substitute Gareth Bale, which resulted in the third goal.

The German, 24, has been the focus of hundreds of threats and hate messages on social media after the game.

Posts from Liverpool fans included a comment saying, “I’ll murder your girl I’ll murder your girl”.

Others said his “sons deserve to die of cancer” and “I hope your whole family dies”.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police told UK’s The Telegraph officers were investigating the vile abuse.

“The force takes social media posts of this nature extremely seriously and any offences identified will be investigated,” stated the spokeswoman.
