Beer Sectoral Group Launches Phase 3 Drive Alcohol-free Campaign

The Beer Sectoral Group (BSG) of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has launched the third phase of the group’s responsible drinking campaign, tagged Drive Alcohol-Free. The BSG is made up leading brewing companies in Nigeria with members operating in seventeen breweries located in various parts of the country. Members include: Nigerian Breweries Plc, Guinness Nigeria Plc, and International Breweries Plc.

The Drive Alcohol-Free campaign is part of the Group’s strategy to continue to enlighten consumers, especially commercial drivers, on the need for responsible consumption of alcohol. It is designed to improve safety on our roads through reducing the incidence of drink-driving and the chances of alcohol-related road crashes.

The campaign is part of BSG’s efforts to motivate behaviour change among consumers who are yet to imbibe the attitude of a responsible approach towards alcohol particularly with regard to their work.

It is targeted at commercial drivers and riders; private car owners/drivers; young people with access to drive cars; as well as other road users.

The first phase of the campaign was launched in 2014, and an evaluation of its impact so far on drivers, which was conducted by an independent research organisation, is very encouraging.

The theme of the campaign is “Think of Safety! Think of Your Family” with a rider, “Say No to Drinking and Driving.” The current phase of the campaign is running on selected radio stations and outdoor billboards in some major streets in cities and highways across Nigeria.

A statement issued by the Executive Secretary of BSG, Dr. Lanre Onigbogi, stated that the BSG will continue to discharge its social responsibilities to its many stakeholders and support the activities of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) with whom it has a Memorandum of Understanding, towards promoting safety on Nigerian roads.
