Telecommunication company, 9mobile has strengthened its commitment to  the health sector by distributing free insecticide-treated nets to communities in Lagos State to mark 2018 World Malaria Day.
According to the company, it was not happy at the level of malaria prevalence in the country which presently stands at 71 per cent as pointed out by FCT Health Secretariat .
Also, World Health Organisation, WHO, on World Malaria Report revealed that there were 216 million cases of malaria in 2016, up from 211 million cases in 2015, hence the need to intensify efforts to defeat the illness.
Speaking, Acting Director, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, Oluseyi Osunsedo noted that the present figure indicated the need for raised awareness and renewed commitment for the prevention of the killer disease. He added that sleeping under insecticide-treated nets was one of the most cost-effective malaria prevention strategies, while the free nets provided by the company would ensure that more families are protected from the deadly disease.“As we say at 9mobile, ‘We are here for you, we are here for 9ja’; we live this ethos by constantly demonstrating our unwavering commitment to the development of Nigeria. Residents of the communities, who were visibly elated by the gesture, commended the company for the gesture while stating that malaria scourge was a major problem in the communities.
In the last 10 months, 9mobile, living up to its billing as the caring network, has distributed thousands of insecticide-treated nets to communities in 13 states of the federation including Ogun, Sokoto, Plateau, Bauchi, Enugu, Anambra, Bayelsa, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Zamfara, Ondo, Ekiti and the FCT.
