President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated former Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Musiliu Adeola Smith, as Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).

In a one- page letter to the Senate entitled: ‘Request for confirmation of Appointment of Chairman and Members of the PSC’, and read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, yesterday, Buhari requested the confirmation of Smith, as well as six other members of the commission including two full time commissioners.

The other nominees include Justice Clara Bata Ogunbiyi (rtd), and Lawal Bawa, full time members and Muhammad H. Najatu.

Others are Dr. Nkemka Jombo-Ofo, Tommy Mom and Braimoh Adogame Austin.
The president said he was sending the names for confirmation by the Senate in line with the provision of Sections 153(1)(m) and 154(1) of the 199 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)

Buhari thanked the Senate immensely “in anticipation of the early consideration and confirmation of the above appointments.”

The senate president only read the letter to the hearing of all senators present at yesterday’s plenary and might be discussed when Senate resumes sitting on May 30
