Biu Takes over as 7 Div GOC

A new officer on Friday took charge of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Maiduguri as General Officer Commanding. He is Brigadier General Abdulmalik Biu.

Biu replaces Major General Ibrahim Yusuf, who has been posted to Nigerian Army Resource Centre Abuja as Director, Nigerian Army Consult.

The acting new GOC on Friday at his maiden press briefing, held at the 7 Division Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, acknowledged his predecessor for his numerous achievements while in charge of the Division, pledging to build on them.

He also promised to carry everyone along as he believes in open door policy and also vowed to take the division to greater heights.

He said he believes in team building and will continue to build on the team work his predecessor had established in the discharge of his duties.

While wishing the outgoing GOC a prosperous life and success in his new task at the Army headquarters Abuja, General Biu said that he would try as much as possible to establish strategic leadership in the division.

General Yusuf expressed his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, for giving him the opportunity to serve as the GOC of the largest Division of the Nigerian Army in the country for at least one year.

He also thanked the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Theater Command, Major General Rogers Nicholas, staff of the 7 Division, Governor Kashim Shettima, International NGOs, Borno State government and the people of Borno.

He also thanked security agencies and other paramilitary services as well as the vigilante group Civilian JTF and hunters for their support and contributions to the military and 7 Division in particular.

He revealed that thousands of IDPs were rescued from the captivity of Boko Haram and as part of the federal government policy and Nigerian Army mandate on humanitarian support, the Division had rendered lot of humanitarian services to the IDPs and surrendered Boko Haram insurgents in line with international standard through its military-civil relations.

He noted that the division had enjoyed optimum cooperation in the discharge of its responsibility and prayed for the souls of the fallen heroes.
