A move to remove the Minority Leader in the Gombe State House of Assembly, Ahmed Usman Haruna, representing Gombe North State Constituency, Thursday led to a free for all and the whisking away of the mace, the Assembly’s symbol of authority.

THISDAY checks revealed that drama ensued when efforts to remove the minority leader failed but one of those against his removal overpowered the sergeant-at-arm of the House which ensured an easy passage of the mace out the Assembly.

It was also revealed that the police could not stop the lawmaker from making away with the mace.

Even when gunshots were fired at the car carrying the mace and chased by the police, it was still not found as the police helplessly returned.

When contacted after a few hours of discussing with the Speaker of the House, Hon. Abubakar Nasiru Nono, the state police commissioner, Shina Tairu Olukolu, told reporters that he had not been briefed on the matter.

When contacted also, the Speaker Nono declined comments but sought for time before briefing the press.

Ahmed Usman Haruna, the Minority Leader (APC) along with some All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwarts, rejected the ward congresses, an action that has pitted him against some members. The 24-member Assembly, comprises eight APC members, while the remaining are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
