Protesters Besiege AI’s Office over Impending Report Indicting Military, Civilian JTF

Activities at the Amnesty International (AI) office, Abuja was temporarily disrupted Wednesday when hundreds of protesters led by Civil Rights Group besieged its office to protest against the impending release of a ‘malicious’ report that will indict the military and the civilian JTF.

The protesters said the protest was a mere rehearsal, insisting that the international agency must quit Nigeria if it fails to stop such false information.

The National Convener of the group, Mr. Danesi Momoh, said the yet-to-be-released report was not only false but maliciously targeted at destabilising Nigeria.

He lamented that the impending report would attempt to portray the Nigerian troops and Civilian JTF fighting the Boko Haram terrorists in the North-east of routinely detaining, raping, starving and killing women as well as minors.

Momoh stated: “It is the beginning of the occupation of Amnesty International until it gets out of our country. With the tenacity the NGO has shown in its bid to destroy Nigeria, we will not pull back like we did the last time. Its lies made us to occupy its premises. We have had enough of its destabilising lies and we say Amnesty International must leave now!”

“It is sickening that AI can now be using its report to praise the dark era when cities as far south as Kogi State were under siege from Boko Haram.

“AI used its so called report to discredit the findings of other investigations that absolved the government and military of all blame while stating that the rules of engagement in military operations were professionally followed. The import of this unbecoming posture is that Nigeria is permitted to only exist and function at the pleasure of Amnesty International.

“This international organisation lied that people are being victimised when perceived to be connected to Boko Haram and that the military was indiscriminately killing those who remained in their homes. It lied that its ghost researchers documented hundreds of thousands of deaths. The horrendous lies are so many that one is constrained to be searching for a single strand of truth in the entire document,” Momoh noted.

He reminded the federal government that the demand made last year for it to kick AI out of the country has not been withdrawn.
