By Mohammed Aminu in Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar II, Wednesday called on Nigerians to expose the hideouts of criminals in their midst to security agencies in order to curb crime in the country.

The monarch made the call during the distribution of proceeds of Zakkat (levy) in Isa and Gebe districts of Isa Local Government area of the state.

He noted that the task of securing the society is not the responsibility of security operatives alone, hence the need for all citizens to cooperate by revealing the hideouts of criminals to the authorities for necessary action.

“We need to put heads together to assist our security agencies in exposing the hoodlums in our midst, as such is a necessity to ensure a peaceful society.

“We are fully aware of the security challenges in this areas and aware that some of you know the actual hoodlums, as you get food and fuel from them for your daily use.

“So I urge you as good Samaritans to cooperate with government and security agencies in ensuring peace and unity in the country,” Sultan said.

He charged wealthy persons in the society to always give out Zakkat and endowment as enshrined in Islam.

The Sultan urged them to always support the less privileged in the society, especially in this period of the Ramadan.

He commended the Sokoto State government and the state Zakkat and Endowment Commission for their dedication and commitment towards supporting the needy in the society.

The Chairman of the Zakkat Commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki, commended members of the District Zakkat Committee for their perseverance and selfless service.

He urged the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the materials given to them for the purpose intended.

The Chairman of Isa Local Government Area, Col. Mohi Garba (rtd), commended the Sultanate Council for its commitment towards ensuring the success of Zakkat and endowment in the state.
