Hundreds of Catholic clerics and Christian faithful in Kaduna on Tuesday joined in the nationwide protest against the incessant killings by herdsmen across the country.
The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) had directed that all its faithful should organise a peaceful rally against the killings by herdsmen in the country.
Dressed mostly in black, the faithful converged on Our Lady of Fatima at Sabon Tasha GRA, Kaduna, and marched to and from the KRPC Junction and back to the church.
They sang choruses, waving rosaries and displaying banners and placards. Some of the placards read: “Stop the killings”, “Human life is sacred”, and “Provide Jobs”, etc.
One side of the dual carriage way was blocked by the police who escorted the protesters during their procession which started at about 9:00am and ended at about 11:00am.
Many people are being killed almost on a daily basis across the country, especially in Benue, Plateau, Taraba, Nasarawa, Kogi, Kaduna and Zamfara States following the incessant attacks by gunmen and the seeming inability of the federal government to arrest the situation.
In April, herdsmen invaded a Catholic Church in Benue State, killing two priests, alongside 17 members of the church.
