The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has assured residents of the state that security of lives and property will remain a cardinal priority of his government.
The governor made the declaration when he visited the former Abakaliki Street area of Awka, which has become synonymous with nightlife in the state.
Obiano said the area which is mainly occupied by hotels and nightclubs was once an obscure lonely road where all forms of crime and criminality held sway, but added that through his efforts, it had developed into a beauty with dazzling streetlights shining at night.
The governor, who visited one of the nightclubs, Nuvo Lounge, declared a change of name for the street, renaming it Club Road, saying that this would better depict its status.
Speaking after renaming the street, Obiano said his government will sustain its efforts at promoting security and creating a business friendly environment that will attract investors into the state.
He observed that with the security his government has put in place, fun seekers and holiday makers now come to the state to enjoy, a development that has increased the growth of the local economy.
A former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Inter-Party Affairs, Senator Ben Ndi-Obi, who joined the governor on the visit, acknowledged that business is done round the clock on the street, commending Obiano for his huge investments in security.
The club owner, Mr Buchi Obi, while thanking the governor for the visit, recalled how dreadful the area was before the governor intervened and pointed out that the intervention has added value to his business and those of others in the Awka Capital Territory.
