The South-east leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has disappointed Nigerians who believed in her.
The leaders commended former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and the leaders of Coalition for Nigeria Movement (CNM) over the adoption of the party as a vehicle for pursuit of a new Nigeria, saying it is on a mission to reverse Nigeria’s story.
In a comunique issued to THISDAY after a strategic meeting of the leaders of the party in the South-east held in Awka, Anambra State to deliberate on the recent adoption of the party, the party said it has the capacity to wrest power from APC.
The seven-point communique read in part: “We thank former President Obasanjo and other strategic stakeholders, who we may not be able to mention, for their wise decision to adopt the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the enormous trust they repose on the founding national chairman of our party, Chief Okey Nwosu.
“The leaders of ADC in the South-east assure all stakeholders that their trust is well placed; that they should be rest assured that our commitment and passion are in alignment with their patriotism, and good aspiration of all Nigerians.
“APC has failed in the core responsibilities of any government as the security and welfare of the people have deteriorated monumentally, and ADC would restore it when it takes over government in 2019.”
The party assured Ndigbo that it would use its platform to reintegrate the people of the South-east back to mainstream national politics.
It said: “In this regards, we pledge to work and put in our best effort and resources to colour the South-east with ADC. We shall use the ADC symbol of handshake to reach out to every Nigerian to bring back friendship, love, unity of purpose, and use power in our diversity to make Nigeria a model for Africa, investors haven, and the darling of the world.”
It called on all well-meaning patriots in the South-east and across Nigeria to join ADC, saying the door is wide open to accommodate everyone.
In attendance at the meeting were the Zonal Chairman, Chief Paul Umensofor, Mr Nlem Ignatius (Imo State Chairman), Mr Kelenna Obonna (Abia State), and Mrs Stella Chukwuma (Enugu State).
Others are Pastor Frank Agumadu (Anambra), Mr Udume Samuel Evo (Ebonyi), Mr Okonkwo Ifeanyi (CNM Anambra), Hon. Nkem Ukandu, CNM Abia and Mr Mathias Okinya, Zonal Publicity Secretary ADC.
