Let’s Fight Poverty Together, Borno Gov Calls on Politicians, Individuals

The Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, has called on political office holders and other well meaning individuals in the state to come on board the fight against poverty.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Usman Durkwa, at the distribution of 800 sewing machines by Senator Babakaka Garbai to tailors in Maiduguri, said the government cannot be left with the heavy load of poverty alleviation.

He asked political office holders and other well meaning individuals to emulate the senator representing Borno Central at the National Assembly in the fight against poverty.

He said there are so much poverty in Borno State brought about by a decade of Boko Haram crisis, which needs everyone contribution to alleviate.

He said the senator is doing well to remember the people in their time of needs, and assist them to get back on track.

The donor, Senator Garbai, said he felt he needed to contribute to the wellbeing of the people that have sacrificed a lot to making him who he is today.

He said he will be distributing over 2,500 sewing machines, which were procured at the cost of N20 million to members of his constituency.

He said other constituency projects to address unemployment and poverty are Skills Acquisition Centre (SKAC) at Bulabulin-Ngarnam, building of classrooms and water supply projects in the metropolis.

He said to prevent diversion of the distributed machines, the police are to accompany and deliver all the distributed machines in each of the 15 wards of Maiduguri.

He said: “No beneficiary will be allowed to sell the machines for profit. They are intended to fully engage you and make you become productive and self-reliant.”
