Be Wary of Politicians and Their Antics, CAN Tells Christians

Christians were on Monday told to be wary of the antics of politicians and their foot soldiers as the campaign for the 2019 general election begins nationwide.

The Niger State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Mathias Echioda, gave the charge when he addressed the closing ceremony of the Pentecostal Christian Fellowship three-day meeting held at Revival Fire Ministry in Minna, the state capital.

“I want to remind us all that these politicians are coming again. We must not be fooled by their antics.

“I urge you to be involved in political activities, register and join political parties. We have the numerical strength to be decisive in Niger State and in Nigeria. Whatever it is, we should be vigilant because we will not let them put us astray,” Echioda declared.

The CAN chairman said Christians should get their voters card, insisting that “we must come out and be part of what is happening politically, we are not relevant at the moment. So, we must wake up”.

According to him, “Anytime there is political activity going on, go and listen to what they are saying because the decisions to choose those who will lead us are made at the parties secretariats. Nobody should choose leaders for you.”

In his sermon, the Bishop of the Peculiar Peoples Evangelical Ministry, Minna, Bishop Andrew Achanya, challenged government to speedily address the security situation in the country.

Bishop Achanya said innocent lives were being lost daily while both Christians and Muslims were serving their God with the fear of being attacked by insurgents, a development, he said, was not conducive for religious worship.
